Does your library have a website? Google it and find out. If it does, you have found something so much better than a video store. I have two local libraries with wonderful websites. I can browse their DVD selections to see if they have any good movies. Then I can see which movies are actually available. And the best part? Then I can place a hold on the movie I want! Try doing that at Blockbuster. Even if the movie is not in, I can place a hold on it so that I will get it as soon as it does come in.

And the library has more than just movies. They have Veggie Tales! It is our routine to watch Veggie Tales after naptime. Every day. Without exception. Why? Because my baby girl wakes up very slowly. (Read: Grumpy). That half an hour of watching Veggies and sipping on juice is just what she needs to wake up completely and be her happy self again. Every week, we get three new Veggie Tales from the library. It’s like spending hundreds of dollars for the complete collection… only not!

They also have TV on DVD. This is the perfect thing for parents of young children. I used to watch real TV, but the previewing commercials for the next Dr. Phil or Oprah would always tempt me into watching way too much TV in one day. And I would find myself getting agitated if I were to be interrupted. And no one wants an agitated mommy. With TV on DVD, you can hit pause when the baby wakes up from his nap. Or just press stop when it’s time to finish the laundry. You know that show is not going anywhere. You can even renew it online if you don’t finish it by the due date. And the added bonus of no commercials not only shortens your tube-time, but also eliminates the compulsive desire to own all those fancy products they advertise. Like mini-vans. And Liberty Mutual Life Insurance.
