Now for the fun part.  And as it’s 2 a.m., my creative juices are flowing.  It reminds me an awful lot of college.

I printed out a large (600 pt), bold, Century Gothic ‘B’.  I was flipping through the fonts, saw “Century Gothic”, thought “Batman” and what do you know?  Success!

(Also, if you right click and go to “font”, you can make it an outline of a ‘B’ so you don’t waste all your black ink.  Ink is money!)

Using that ‘B’ as a pattern, I cut out my real ‘B’ from a fun blue polka dot material:

That didn’t stand out nearly enough.

After rummaging through my craft box, I solved the problem with some dark brown thread:

Beautiful.

Now I need to find a way to close the cape.  I had originally planned on making a drawstring, but

A) When I finally managed to get the collar hemmed, there wasn’t enough room for one and I wasn’t about to rip those seams and start again

and

B) I’d rather have something he can do himself.

So I rummaged through the trusty craft box again and found elastic and an old American Eagle button.

Normally, I would think of this beforehand and sew it into the hem, but DID I MENTION I HAD ENOUGH TO WORRY ABOUT WITH THE HEM?!  So I pulled it tight and zigzagged the blazes out of it.

Before putting the button on, I folded a piece of fabric several times over, zigzagged around it, and attached it to where the button would go to reinforce the otherwise thin fabric:

And then I hand-sewed that button in place:

Look, it’s an American Eagle cape!  We’re stylin’ over here with our namebrand superhero outfits, I tell ya!

And it’s done!

I brought back our trusty model so you could see it in use:

(Hopefully Benjamin’s neck isn’t that big… it was a tight fit!)

Super Gumball Machine!

The back:

I like it!  I hope he does, too.  Should I make sure he opens it before, or after he opens up his Snobrod?  (To get the best reaction).  What do you think?

Next up:  A Superhero Mask!

How’s your crafting going?
