Welcome to Craft Day!  Today is a day I’ve set aside to make some homemade Christmas presents for my children!  You can play along, too!  Do you have some crafts you’ve been meaning to get done?  Use today as the motivation you’ve been lacking!  Come and craft with me!

That’s a lot of exclamation points!

Can you tell I’m excited?!

Today, I’m going to be making a crown for my princess.  I’m totally a “don’t measure, cut twice” kind of person, so this is going to be interesting.

Although it intimidates me beyond all measure (tee hee), I broke out the tape measure because I had no clue how big Olivia’s head is.  It’s 20 inches.  I added an inch or two for hems and just-in-case-I-measured-wrong insurance.

Then I mapped out on printer paper about what I wanted the crown to look like.  I used the grids on my handy-dandy pink cutting board thingy to help me make even points.

Then I folded my fabric and marked my paper to make sure I lined the right edges up with the right folds.

(But not before I completely ruined the other side of the fabric by cutting into it and THEN realizing I had NOT lined the right edges up with the right folds…)

But anyway…

All marked out and ready to cut!

All cut out, and partially unfolded.

Then I made a separate pattern for the inside of the crown and traced it:

(I plan on doubling up in the inner crown as well for two reasons.

1) The stripes show through the thinner pink fabric

and

2) The though of hemming those points scares me.  So I will stick to what I know and will make it a pillow-type thing.

Both pieces cut out and partially unfolded:

Now to break out the sewing machine… Stay tuned!!
