My smoothie's generally consist of:

1.5c of frozen fruit (I like mixed berries!)

milk/soy milk/plain yogurt (whichever I'm in the mood for or have on hand)

1tbsp slivered almonds (weird, I know, but it gives it a little something extra)

.5 scoop of protein powder

I love smoothies! We have them every day, sometimes twice a day. I think the key to a good smoothie is a banana or a very ripe orange (OJ works great too actually). Also frozen fruit is very important to get that really cold, smoothie flavor. Otherwise it is too watery or more of a juice. I like mine with plain yoghurt, my husband not so much. Our favorite recipe is two bananas, one frozen mango (cut before it is frozen!), a cup of frozen pineapple, and water. I then pour out my husband's portion and add a little yoghurt for myself. We'll also add spinach and any overripe fruit we might have on hand.

My smoothie recipes are similar to the ones all ready listed, but I also add honey for a little (guilt-free!) sweetness.

I like to use 1 cup of skim milk, a handful of frozen berries, and 1/2 a banana, maybe a Tbs of wheat germ. Blend, and enjoy!

My kids love to try new flavors in smoothies. They all start with bananas and strwaberries and 1/2 c yougurt of choice. I think the favorite of the summer was when I added a kiwi, 1/2 c mango and a fresh over-ripe peach. For liquid I use O.J. or a natural lemonade.

We have used both fresh and frozen friuit and love it both ways. If I make it for a dessert I add ice cream instead of yougurt.

My 9 year old wants these for breakfast every day.

Well, my breakfast smoothie that I am drinking right now has: four ice cubes, one medium banana, one small apple, five strawberries, half a cup of spinach, and about half a cup of white grape juice. My smoothies always have ice and a banana, and then I just throw in what ever other fruit I have around and about a quarter to a third cup of what ever juice is in the fridge (half a cup like today makes it runnier than I like).

I started making my own smoothies at home a good few years ago and in the end rather than buying books I decided to create a smoothie site hence the name flowercarole.com.

Here is a tasty summer smoothie treat to get your taste buds going:

A Summer Breeze Smoothie Recipe (Serves 1)

1 medium sized banana
2 scoops of low fat vanilla ice cream
1 pear cut into chunks
3-4 fresh strawberries

Method
First of all break the banana into about 4 pieces, place in blender. Next add the pear chunks. Hull the strawberries and add them next. Finally throw the low fat vanilla ice cream in and blend on full power for around 30 seconds. Then set on smooth for 30 seconds. Pour out in a tall glass and enjoy it! If you need to make more, just double or triple the smoothie ingredients.

Hope you enjoy it, I make this particular one quite regular.
