You might as well make a devotional out of it, right?
Each week, Olivia and I read one story out of her Bible every morning (Well, on the mornings where we have breakfast. Breakfast that doesn’t get eaten out of a baggy in the car.) This week it’s the story of Sarah and Abraham receiving the good news from the three visitors that they will have their first child. And Sarah laughed. And God heard. And God scolded.
Here’s our verse for the week to go along with our story: “Is anything too hard for the Lord?” (Genesis 18:14)
I practiced it with her. “Is ANYTHING too hard for the Lord?” “NOOOOOOOOOOOOO.”
Repeat.
Fast forward. I had asked her to do something. She was refusing. Flat out. “No.”
“Olivia.” (Warning)
“No.”
“Olivia?” (Pleading)
“No.”
Olivia!” (Reprimanding)
“No!”
“Is anything too hard for the Lord?”
“No!”
“Good girl!”
And we both start giggling.
I am having the exact same problem with my 2 year old this week! “No” must be a very popular word right now! I tried to turn it into something spiritual on a blog posting. But, I love this idea of turning it into a teaching moment with the child. I am going to try it!! Thanks!!
What a neat way to break the tension & distract her! How fun.
What an excellent idea! We’re having the same “no” phase at our house right now with Hannah (22 months).
Cute and funny!
What an adorable story! It’s an awesome way to get kids to remember those Bible verses. Great WFMW post!!
