How to Pigtail the Active, Strongwilled Child

I am constantly getting comments on how cute Olivia’s hair is.  It has been in pigtails for over a year now.  Every now and then I attempt something new, but you just can’t beat the Pigtail Look on a golden-haired toddler.

I also get many comments from mothers who lament the fact that their child “would never sit still long enough for pigtails.”

My child doesn’t sit still either, with a few exceptions:  ice cream, puppies, and…

Ready for this?

Makeup.

Yep.  I put Olivia cross-legged on the bathroom counter in front of the mirror.  I get out my makeup bag, unzip it, and let her go crazy.

Sidenote:  She is still incapable of unscrewing mascara and I do not wear lipstick.  The most she can get into is powder, blush, and chapstick.

Her favorite is the blush.  My toddler has the rosiest cheeks in town - and I wish I could say it’s all-natural.

But back to the point at hand.  Using this tactic, I am done Pigtailing her before she is done exploring the creative possibilities of that bag.

Works for me!

  1. Oh I am going to try this! Maybe I should wait until Lexi has enough hair for pigtails. We’re doing good to keep bows in her hair!

  2. Aww it’s Jera… *sniff*

  3. She is adorable! Great tip too - may have to try that one!

  4. Now THAT is cute as can be!!

  5. What a wonderful idea! My daughter LOVES to get up on the step stool beside me and dig while I do my makeup in the morning, but she always SCREAMS when I do her hair. I never thought to put the two together. Thanks so much I’ll definitely have to try this one.

  6. You had me at pigtail! Thanks for the ideas — that’s how I get my own makeup on, but I might as well go ahead and fix her hair while she’s fixing her face. :-)

  7. Thank you for sharing!
