I believe in the benefits of babywearing. I believe that the sling is better than the playpen, the wrap is better than the exersaucer, and the pouch is better than letting the baby fuss on the floor while I try to get something (anything!) accomplished.
Having said that, I want to state that we do […]

Without passing the QE, Josh cannot do his “prelims.” “Prelims” are the approval of a partially completed thesis.
And he cannot do his dissertation without first passing his “prelims.”
I understand just enough of this to know that this hinders his “official” thesis progress. He can still research and write and take classes, and if he passes […]

The QE scores came out yesterday.
He missed it by 20 points.
His advisor says the pass rate was 40% this year.
When I was studying to be a teacher, a professor once told me that tests don’t just reflect how well the students learn, but also how well the professors teach.

So the school year has started, and with it two bible studies and a MOPS group.
And I am learning that being a social mommy isn’t always the most frugal choice.
MOPS costs $40 per semester with a $20 registration fee.
Women’s bible study has a $5 per child per week childcare fee.
Adult bible study has a $10 […]

The soap scum. The hair. The rust. The hard-water buildup. And that’s just the sink. The mirror above has its own coating of grime thanks to the over-zealous splashing I give it every time I wash my face.
I used to clean it once a week. I would break out […]

You heard it here first, folks. My next What I Believe post will be this Friday (hopefully before midnight or I’ll be a liar).
Part two in a who-knows-how-many-parts series. Specifically in the area (nay, the art) of babywearing. Slings. Pouches. Maya wraps. Moby wraps. Benefits. Drawbacks. You name […]

In my last post, I wrote about the increase in maternal deaths in the United States. In that post, I voiced (typed?) my opinion on the topic of preventing C-sections. Among other things, I had listed laboring at home as long as possible and avoiding induction as good preventative measures for avoiding […]

Bonnie sent me a link to this article because she thought I would find it interesting. And I did.
In 1977, the maternal death rate was 10 deaths for every 100,000 live births in America. In 2003, it rose to 12. In 2004, it rose to 13. The article does not mention […]
